This reading will be given in both spoken English and American Sign Language, with interpreters present to provide support.Timothy Mumm, MS, CI/CT, QMHI (He/They)ASL Interpreter, PlaywrightTim has worked with the deaf community for over 45 years. He holds a BS in Deaf Education, an MS in counseling, and studied interpreting at UW Milwaukee. Tim holds CI and CT certifications from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), and is a Qualified Mental Health Interpreter (QMHI or Q) through the Office of Deaf Services of the Alabama Department of Mental Health. In addition to his other qualifications, Tim has studied theatrical interpretation in New York City.Tim worked at Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) for 13 years as a teacher and school counselor, and has been working as a community based certified hearing interpreter with Professional Interpreting Enterprise (PIE) since 2000.Tim has served in a number of volunteer positions including president for the Wisconsin Chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (WisRID). In addition to interpreting theater, Tim has written, acted, and directed for WSD, for his church, and for other venues. Tim’s monologue, "50 (or so) Steps," was a part of Forward Theater's 2023 Monologue Festival in Madison. Tim played the role of Lord Aster in an all American Sign Language (ASL) production of "Peter and the Starcatcher" at Janesville Performing Arts Center, and appeared as the father in "Silence," a short play written by a deaf high school student for Children's Theater of Madison's 2025 Young Playwright's Festival.Tim celebrates creativity and believes that it is a spiritual experience for all.Jenny Buechner, a native of Madison, Wisconsin, graduated from the Wisconsin School for the Deaf in 1998 and earned her degree in Social Work from Gallaudet University in 2002. She worked as a Deaf Interpreter in Washington, D.C., from 2002 to 2003 before transitioning to various roles within nonprofit and private for-profit organizations. In 2018, Jenny returned to her passion for Deaf Interpreting and became a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) through RID. She is also a Qualified Mental Health Interpreter certified by the Office of Deaf Services of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and holds certification with the State of Wisconsin courts. Jenny works in various settings including community, medical, legal, mental health, and performing arts.Joel Mankowski was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended St. John’s School for the Deaf and later the Wisconsin School for the Deaf, from which he graduated. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Gallaudet University, the world’s only liberal arts university for the Deaf. He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Deaf Education from McDaniel College in Maryland. Joel taught ASL Studies, including Deaf History, at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee for 19 years. In 2017, he published his children’s book, Joanna the Deaf Princess. He currently teaches ASL courses at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and serves as President of the Wisconsin School for the Deaf Foundation.
