A Mid-Winter Hullabaloo is a joyful community celebration-an evening to come together, honour the place we live, and share in the warmth of the people around us.
Rooted in the winter rituals that once brought communities together during the darkest months of the year, the Hullabaloo invites us to reimagine those traditions for today and for the generations still to come.
For months, we’ve been asking local people and schools: “What is a Hullabaloo, and where can we find one?”
This January, we finally discover the answer.
Each celebration begins with a short parade, as we gather, sing, and make our way to the venue-accompanied by a few surprises along the route. The mischief continues with a brand-new Mummers Play, written by Emma McGordon and performed by local actors. This lively and comedic piece shines a playful light on our communities, celebrating the quirks, kindness, and character of the places we call home.
The evening carries on with shared songs, simple games, and warm food and drink served in a friendly, relaxed setting. Families and guests are invited to linger, enjoy, and help search for the Hullabaloo together.
