This 11 mile circular walk starts from the picturesque seaside village of Sandsend and takes the path into Mulgrave Woods, where we will find the remains of Mulgrave Castle. We will stop here briefly to explore the ruins before continuing on towards East Barnby. If the weather is kind, I anticipate we'll stop for our lunch break near here overlooking the valley and woodland. After lunch takes us through the village of Lythe, walking on field paths and tracks, passes the site of a Roman Signal Station and also the former Kettleness Railway Station. The final 3 miles are on the Cleveland Way with its stunning coastal views.

?️ Free car park at the foot of Lythe Bank, Sandsend, YO21 3TG

? There are public toilets next to the car park at the start of the walk

? X4 bus from Middlesbrough (08:35) and Whitby (10:04), with connections from Scarborough on X93 (08:50) – regular buses back through the afternoon. If you are coming by bus, please contact Vicky beforehand so that we know to wait for you

? You will need to bring a packed lunch

☕ After the walk, we can head to Wits End Café next to the car park for well earned tea and cake

? Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times – please be aware that there will be several stiles to cross, and fields are likely to have livestock with their young

⚠️ This walk is graded as moderate due to the distance and it being undulating field paths, tracks, minor roads and cliff tops.

? This walk is also likely to be very muddy in places, please wear appropriate clothing and boots

Midlife Hikers is a Ramblers group for people in their 40s and 50s, and our walks are led by volunteers. Non-members are welcome to try us out for free for up to 3 walks but then we ask you to join the Ramblers
