“National Nestbox Week is an established part of the ornithological calendar. Celebrated from February 14th each year, it puts the spotlight on breeding birds and asks everyone to put up more nestboxes in their local area”. 

On this guided bird walk local ornithologist Michael Turner will help identify the rich birdlife by sight and sound as we wander through this beautiful landscape and can also advise on putting up your own bird box at home.  Situated in the Lower Derwent Valley this section of the Land of Oak and Iron is a mixed landscape of woodland, meadows, riverside and historic monuments, along with an abundance of wildlife.

Before the walk, Michael will be displaying a selection of nests and talking about their different designs and materials used, which gives a fascinating insight into the nests of different birds.

Please bring binoculars if you have them and dress appropriately with stout footwear, waterproofs may be necessary depending on the weather.  Sorry, no dogs please.
