SAHC is hosting a FREE Self Defense Class!
The Sexual Assault Help Center works to end sexual violence, human trafficking, and stalking. We provide 24/7 services for survivors, conduct prevention education in the community, and offer risk reduction programs like the Empowered Self Defense workshops—all for free!
Our Empowered Self Defense workshop is designed to help reduce the risk of harm. For two hours, we educate participants on life-saving techniques. First, we start with a 30-minute discussion to debunk myths about what we believe a typical harm-doer would do. Then, we explore Power & Control, examining how harm-doers use specific tools to create vulnerable situations that increase risk. Lastly, we talk about how our brains are wired to respond in fear-inducing situations—and how we can overcome those obstacles.
And then comes the fun part—we learn how to physically protect ourselves, no matter our abilities!
This class is open to everyone, with no limits on age, ability, or gender. We will work with you, even if you have a disability that affects movement. Of course, take care of yourself, wear comfortable clothing, and bring some water!
