Learn the basics of OmTech laser cutting and marquetry in our introductory workshop!About this EventThanks for your interest in LAS110: Introduction to OMTech Laser Cutters! This beginner-friendly course is intended to be a thourogh introduction to some pretty powerful laser cutters, including our 60W and 130W CO2 machines. During this three-hour course, you’ll learn how to operate a laser cutter safely, identify materials that can be cut or engraved, select appropriate settings, and follow best practices for preventing fires.You’ll apply these skills by designing a veneer layout for an A5 notebook using LightBurn software and one of several provided templates. Along the way, you’ll learn how to import, trace, edit, scale, arrange, and combine design elements. After preparing your file and selecting the appropriate laser settings, you’ll cut the components and assemble, sand, and seal your finished notebook.Customization is highly encouraged! You may bring a high-contrast black-and-white image, and the instructor will show you how to import and trace it in LightBurn. Several ready-to-use templates will also be available to customize. To ensure the project can be completed within the class period, designs are limited to 10 inlaid pieces.
