Learn about where whitebait - īnanga spawn, what macroinvertebrates - bugs live in your stream, what the tohu - signs are around stream health. Then meet the locals putting in the hard yards for environmental restoration around your catchment and how you can get involved.

Open for all ages - a fun activity for the school holidays. Spaces are limited and registrations essential for catering. Please note - if you miss the pōwhiri you will not be able to attend the later activities.

Please note: This event is for Kaipara Locals only, and a code is required to register. Contact patricia@mountainstosea.org.nz with the number of people you are wanting to register and your suburb to register your interest if you do not have a code.

Timeline for the event
0945-1000: Arrive at the marae and check in
1000-1200: Pōwhiri | Welcome | Introduction from the haukāinga - local people and from Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust with how the day will run
1200-1215: Whakawhanaungatanga - Introduction Bingo
1215-1300: Karakia | Whakanoa | Lunch - bring a plate if possible
1300-1400: "Local Showcase Presentations: Teā (Puatahi Tamariki Wānanga), Laikynn (Ōtakanini Haranui Rangatahi Engagement), Angela (The Forest Bridge Trust KMR Technical Workshops), Karyn &amp; Sue (Arapārera Community Catchment Group)"
1400-1600: Activity rotations including - finding and IDing macro invertebrates in the local stream, learning how to find the best spawning habitats for whitebait - and how to protect them, the tohu - signs for stream health, alongside the opportunity for some W**d release, with a break for  Kapu tī - Afternoon Tea
1600: Close of event

We will provide a step by step guide for being welcomed onto the marae, what to wear and bring as well as a place to learn and ask questions.
