Real café experiences, practical work skills and confidence-building in a supportive environment.About this Event☀️ Summer Café Skills Programme for Young People with SENDJoin The Shyft this summer for a hands-on café and hospitality work-skills programme for young people with SEND aged 16–25, designed to build confidence, independence and practical skills in a supportive environment.Based at Brooklands Technical College, participants will use specialist SEND kitchen and restaurant facilities whilst learning food and drinks preparation, customer service and teamwork skills, making friends along the way.Throughout the programme, participants will have the opportunity to:• Prepare food and drinks• Learn food hygiene and kitchen safety• Welcome and serve customers• Use a point-of-sale (till) system• Work as part of a team• Develop communication and problem-solving skills• Experience different roles within a café environmentThe programme builds towards a final mock café event where participants will put their skills into practice by helping prepare food and drinks and serving invited guests, including parents, carers and local businesses.WHAT HAPPENS AFTER BOOKING?Once you have booked, a member of The Shyft team will contact you to discuss your young person's interests, support needs and any reasonable adjustments that may help them get the most from the programme.You will be asked to complete a participant information form, which helps us understand each individual and prepare appropriately for their attendance.To help reduce anxiety ahead of the programme, families will also receive a "What to Expect" guide containing practical information about the venue, activities and what participants can expect on the day.FLEXIBLE ATTENDANCEParticipants can attend individual sessions or the full six-week programme.Whilst the sessions naturally build on previous weeks, each session is designed to be valuable as a standalone experience and we understand that families may have holidays and other commitments over the summer.A 10% discount is available when booking all six sessions.
