St. Brigid and the Coming of Spring – A Talk by Michael Fortune As part of the inaugural Liam Gaul Lecture Series, Michael Fortune (from folklore.ie) will present an hour-long talk on the traditions, customs, and folklore surrounding St. Brigid’s Day in Ireland. This presentation will focus on both local and national traditions and is not to be missed if you want to learn more about the day and gain an overview of the woman and her date in the Irish calendar. Michael has written and spoken about this topic for many years and is delighted to present his findings to a Wexford audience, including material from Spain, Portugal, and across the Atlantic in rural Newfoundland. The event is free, but early arrival is encouraged to secure a seat. .................................................................................................... St Brigid’s Day: Cross-Making, Songs & Folklore Workshop Join Aileen Lambert and Michael Fortune, of folklore.ie for a one-hour, family-friendly workshop celebrating St Brigid’s Day. Participants will learn how to make various traditional St Brigid’s crosses and dolls while discovering the rich folklore, customs, and traditions associated with St Brigid. During the making of your cross, you’ll be treated to traditional songs, sung by Aileen, reflecting St Brigid’s life, legacy, and connection to the coming of spring. This is a hands-on, welcoming workshop for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult who is willing to help them make their own cross. This will be a lovely seasonal activity offering a meaningful and creative way to mark St Brigid’s Day and celebrate the arrival of spring.
