About the event

Building A Wexford of Welcomes: Peer Learning
An exchange of lessons learned and experience gained - hosted by WLD & FJI as part of the Fredrick Douglass Civil Rights Festival

About this Event

We invite you to take part in a workshop entitled ‘Building a Wexford of Welcomes; Peer Learning Session - Countering Misinformation and Disinformation in our communities’ as part of the The event will take place on Saturday 22nd November 2025, from 2pm - 4.15pm in Wexford Arts Centre, in the centre of Wexford town.

The Festival is in its 8th year now, commemorating the visit of anti-slavery activist Frederick Douglass to Wexford in 1845, and using this commemoration to create spaces for dialogue and community building on key modern day social justice and broader human rights issues.

The specific event we are inviting you to take part in is a community peer learning session that will bring people from a few different community development and community organising contexts together to share experiences and lessons learned in dealing with the challenge of countering misinformation and disinformation.

The Festival is partnering with ourselves in Wexford Local Development (WLD) and with Financial Justice Ireland (FJI) for this event which will build on a workshop we had at last year’s festival with the Hope and Courage Collective, and training and workshops WLD has been organising on these themes for its network over the last 2-3 years.

Community workers from WLD and other projects will attend and share some of their experiences and challenges in the local context. FJI will provide some facilitation support and is particularly interested in the role of global citizenship education in the área of economic and financial justice in building community resilience.

We hope the session will contribute towards building capacity & solidarity locally, and strengthening our connections and networks regionally and nationally as we take on this challenge.

This is a collaboration between Wexford Local Development and Financial Justice Ireland as part of the Fredrick Douglass Civil Rights Festival.
