This is the simplest, most obvious truth of our existence yet very few of us have come to terms with this fact.  It’s the kind of thing that’s easy to avoid thinking about – wishing it didn’t exist and convincing our self it’s ok with thoughts like, “I’ll deal with it when it happens“… Until it happens!  Then we realise our understanding is severely lacking, we’re unprepared and we’ve run out of time!  This is serious – we don’t want to be filled with fear, regret and sadness at that time.

What could be more important than being prepared for our own death so that we can genuinely be at peace?

Then there is the death of our family members and friends. If we are still living in denial when these times come, although we will want to help them more than anything in the world we won’t be able to because we won’t know how.  Again, we’ll feel helpless, sad and confused.

The kindest thing we could do for ourself and our loved ones is to learn about death and dying thoroughly.  Then we can help those around us who are passing away, as well as live meaningfully and die joyfully ourself.

In this meditation course Buddhist monk Gen Jampel will explain the Buddhist understanding of death and dying.  It brings so much peace and confidence for our own and other’s deaths.
