The diverse collection features work from two distinct groupings: “Dreamweaves,” which is the title of the show and “Tangled & Twined,” her latest work which was created during Covid.
Dreamweaves are colorful, woven works that when you look more closely you’ll discover are composed of cut strips from palette papers. The artist used these palettes for painting various scenes along the Connecticut shoreline. The strips of paper are woven together into a textile-like remnant and artifact representing impressions of a place.
Tangled & Twined consists of layers of resists and dyes, waxes and ink layered to express the veils of distance felt by the artist during Covid. Once the paper emerged they were wrapped and finished with thread as if trying to keep it all tied together during a difficult time. “The truth is that I was trying pretty hard to keep myself together, and these works are my expression of that time, ” said Kaplan.
