Wine Tasting

Have you ever wanted to buy a good bottle of wine at the grocery store but felt overwhelmed by the overstuffed aisle? Do you make a wine purchase based solely on the label art?

If your answer to either of these questions is "Yes," join Abby Lechthaler as she shares her tips and strategies for buying good wine at the grocery store.

Abby is a Weston resident and restaurateur who is passionate about helping students understand what they smell and taste in a laid back, accessible way, which makes the wine world less intimidating. Participants can purchase the wines themselves locally to taste along with Abby or can simply listen to her commentary. A list of the 4 wines chosen will be emailed before the class along with suggestions of snacks to enjoy during the tasting. Adults over 21 only.

Abby Lechthaler and her husband Rogan are owners of The Downtown Grocery in Ludlow. Abby has curated wine at The Downtown Grocery for fifteen years and created wine programs for West Town Eatery at the Weston Playhouse for three seasons as well as Mama's Hand Made Italian (2017-2019) & Gamebird (2021-2022). Her focus is on small producers, female winemakers, unusual grapes & unique growing regions and she's tasted wine in Argentina, Austria, California, Italy, Long Island, New Zealand, Oregon, South Africa & Western Australia.

Abby will select wines at the Londonderry Market a week or two before the event for participants to purchase on their own. They can enjoy the event without wine, too. Last year she got the market to put out a special rack of the wines she chose.
