Explore 300 years of passageways in Weston with artist, Julie O’Connor, on Sunday, April 19 at 2pm at the Weston History & Culture Center, 104 Weston Rd. Weston, CT, as she discusses her book, Doors of Weston. 

Every door tells a story. Artist Julie O’Connor will discuss the evolution of her book Doors of Weston: 300 Years of Passageways in a Connecticut Town. Published back in 2008, Doors of Weston still resonates today as it explores the themes of community, nature, art and passages through time and history. Learn about how a trip to Tibet inspired the book, how community involvement shaped Julie’s work, and how doors are accessible “portals” to understanding the evolution of Weston and its people over the last three centuries, as we celebrate America and Weston since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Copies of Doors of Weston will be available for purchase at the event for $50.00. Cash, check and cards accepted. Proceeds from the sales will be divided among the three co-sponsoring organizations: Friends of the Weston Public Library, The Weston History & Culture Center and the League of Women Voters of Weston.

This event is part of the “America 250: The Revolutionary Spirit Lecture Series” co-sponsored by the Friends of the Weston Public Library, The Weston History & Culture Center and the League of Women Voters of Weston, with support from the Weston America 250 Advisory Group.

About the Presenter: Julie O'Connor is a fine art photographer and photojournalist who has traveled the world for more than 40 years. After her experiences in Tibet, she created the “Doors of Tibet” art poster, as well as a series of fine art images, which are on sale through her website: www.JulieOConnor.com. Inspired by Julie’s work on the “Doors of Tibet,” The Weston Forum published a 9-part series on the “Doors of Weston, CT,” utilizing Julie’s photographs. The newspaper went on to win a New England Press Association (NEPA) award for community involvement for this innovative series. In 2008, Julie published her fine art photography book, Doors of Weston, in partnership with the Weston Historical Society (WHS), now the Weston History & Culture Center (WHCC). Sales of the book, available at www.DoorsOfWeston.com, raised over $25,000.00 for the WHCC. She also worked with WHCC on the Weston Voices Oral History Project. Julie is a member of Artists Collective of Westport, National Association of Women Artists, Connecticut Women Artists, Milford Arts Council, Rowayton Arts Center, Silvermine Guild of Artists, Ridgefield Guild of Artists, Salmagundi Club, and an Associate Member of the Connecticut Fine Academy of Fine Arts. Julie’s work has been published in many distinguished magazines and newspapers and is in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
