Avec des étés de plus en plus chauds et des pannes de courant plus fréquentes, il est essentiel que les communautés apprennent à se protéger mutuellement, à rester au frais et à maintenir le lien social.

Joignez-vous à Sheena Swirlz et Maureen Lafreniere le 10 juin pour un Café Climat communautaire axé sur des stratégies pratiques pour rester au frais pendant les vagues de chaleur et les pannes de courant : des solutions simples pour se rafraîchir et la préparation aux situations d’urgence à l’entraide et à la résilience de quartier.

Nous organiserons également un repas-partage végétarien ; si vous le pouvez, apportez un plat, une collation ou une boisson à partager. Pas de pression, venez comme vous êtes !

Cette rencontre informelle est l’occasion d’échanger des idées, de partager des expériences, de rencontrer ses voisins et de renforcer la résilience communautaire.

Les sujets abordés pourraient inclure :
 • Garder un appartement au frais sans climatisation

• Conseils de préparation aux pannes de courant

• Solidarité communautaire en cas de fortes chaleurs

• Stockage des aliments pendant les pannes de courant

• Centres de rafraîchissement et ressources locales

• Entraide et organisation de quartier. 

Car la résilience climatique commence au niveau communautaire.


Sheena Swirlz travaille dans les domaines de la communication, de l'éducation et de la planification d'événements pour adopter un mode de vie plus durable, avec un accent sur les systèmes alimentaires écologiques.

Maureen Lafrenière est active aux enjeux d’environnement depuis plus de 35 années, notamment en recyclage, pesticides et sensibilization publique. Elle a travaillé au niveau municipal en services d’environnement, d’événements et de communications, incluant la planification sur les mesures d’urgence.

Apportez une collation ou une boisson à partager, si vous le souhaitez. Venez accompagné(e) ou faites de nouvelles rencontres.

La soirée se déroulera en anglais, avec traduction en français au besoin.

Chill Out NDG: Climate Cafe and Potluck

As summers get hotter, blackouts become more common so communities need to learn how to keep each other safe, cool, and connected.

Join Sheena Swirlz and Maureen Lafreniere on June 10th for a community Climate Café focused on practical tactics for staying cool during heat waves and power outages — from low-tech cooling strategies and emergency prep to neighbourhood mutual aid and resilience.

We’ll also be hosting a vegetarian potluck, so bring a dish, snack, or drink to share if you’re able. No pressure — come as you are.

This is a casual gathering to swap ideas, share experiences, meet neighbours, and build community resilience together.

Topics may include: 

• Keeping apartments cool without AC
• Blackout preparedness tips
• Community care during extreme heat
• Food storage during outages
• Cooling centres & local resources
• Mutual aid and neighbourhood organizing

Because climate resilience starts at the community level

Sheena Swirlz works in communications, education and event planning for living a more sustainable lifestyle, with a focus on ecological food systems.

Maureen Lafreniere has been active in environment issues for more than 35 years, including recycling, pesticides and public education. She worked for municipal government in environment, events and communications services, including emergency measures planning.

Bring a snack or drink to share... if you wish. Bring a friend... or make a new one.

The evening will be facilitated in English with French translation as needed.

The Climate Café is a project of the NDG Community Council’s Sustainable Development Table & Resilience NDG.
Resilience NDG aims to build community, resilience, and regeneration in NDG. We wish to stimulate conversations, facilitate events, and promote collaborations to question our usual ways of acting, expand our collective aspirations, and create new ways of being in community.

The NDG Community Council is a not-for-profit organization created in 1942 that acts to promote, improve and sustain the well-being of the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce community and its residents. The Council is one of 31 Tables de quartier on the Island of Montreal.
