En avril, nous sommes rejoints par Steve Leckman, directeur des Programmes Coyote. Depuis plus de dix ans, cette école de nature connaît une croissance soignée, proposant une large gamme de programmes pour les enfants, les familles et les adultes. Grâce à une exploration pratique de la nature — étude de l'écologie locale, engagement dans le jeu et mentorat au fil du temps — Coyote Programs crée des expériences où la curiosité s'approfondit, la résilience se développe, et le leadership, la créativité et l'empathie peuvent naturellement émerger.

Steve nous guidera lors d'une soirée interactive : un musée de la nature, quelques chansons et quelques «routines fondamentales» du mentorat naturel. Nous allons déchirer du jute pour l'amadour et plonger dans le monde des compétences en milieu sauvage. Que vous soyez parent, tante ou oncle, éducateur ou simplement curieux, venez vous inspirer.

Steve Leckman trouve espoir et sens grâce à une connexion profonde avec la nature et au sein de la communauté. Traqueur chevronné passionné par les techniques de survie en milieu sauvage, il s'est formé à l'École des Pisteurs, à Past Skills, à l'Université McGill, et comme apprenti à l'École de sensibilisation à la Nature Sauvage. Depuis de nombreuses années, Steve dirige des expéditions en canoë et des sorties en pleine nature, et depuis 2011, il coordonne des activités de mentorat dans la région de Montréal.

On peut le trouver dans son jardin à observer des oiseaux, s'occuper des abeilles ou tailler des pierres pour fabriquer des outils... ou dans son garage à fabriquer des arcs et des flèches, faire du beatbox, ou imiter un raton laveur.

Intro to Deep Nature Connection: The “Coyote” Approach
In April, we’re joined by Steve Leckman, director of Coyote Programs. For over a decade, this nature school has been carefully growing, offering a wide range of programs for kids, families, and adults alike. Through hands-on exploration in nature—studying local ecology, engaging in play, and being mentored over time—Coyote Programs creates experiences where curiosity deepens, resilience is built, and leadership, creativity, and empathy can naturally emerge.

Steve will lead us through a hands-on evening: a nature museum, some songs, and some of the "Core Routines" of nature mentoring. We’ll be ripping jute for tinder and diving into the world of wilderness skills. Whether you’re a parent, an aunt or uncle, an educator, or just curious, come get inspired.

Steve Leckman finds hope and meaning through deep connection with nature and within community. A seasoned tracker with a passion for wilderness survival skills, he has trained at the Tracker School, Past Skills, McGill University, and as an apprentice at the Wilderness Awareness School. For many years, Steve has led canoe expeditions and wilderness outings, and since 2011 has coordinated mentoring activities in the Montreal area.

You might find him in his garden watching birds, tending bees, or chipping stone to make tools… or in his garage crafting bows and arrows, beatboxing, or imitating a raccoon.

Bring a snack or drink to share... if you wish. Bring a friend... or make a new one.

The evening will be facilitated in English with French translation offered.

Resilience NDG aims to build community, resilience, and regeneration in NDG. We wish to stimulate conversations, facilitate events, and promote collaborations to question our usual ways of acting, expand our collective aspirations, and create new ways of being in community.

The NDG Community Council is a not-for-profit organization created in 1942 that acts to promote, improve and sustain the well-being of the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce community and its residents. The Council is one of 31 Tables de quartier on the Island of Montreal.
