About this Event

Join us for a comprehensive update on the latest advances and management strategies in paediatric neurology at this year's Paediatric Neurology Update. Hosted by the Neurology Department at The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW), this event brings together leading experts in various subspecialty fields of paediatric neurology to discuss the management of common childhood neurological disorders, an update on research into those disorders and emerging treatments.

Whether you're a paediatrician, trainee, paediatric neurologist or allied health professional, the update offers valuble insights for the day-to-day practice and management of neurological conditions in children.


What's new in 2025?

This year's program will cover a range of topics in paediatric neurology across 4 focused sessions.

Acute neurological presentations

  • Neonatal encephalopathy
  • Infection-triggered encephalopathy

Neurological disorders

Meet our speakers
  • Dr Simone Ardern-Holmes: Senior Staff Specialist, CHW and Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney. She has extensive experience in treating children with conditions such as epilepsy and seizures, headaches, migraines, movement and developmental disorders, genetic neurological conditions, nervous system tumours, and many others.
  • Prof Russell Dale: Professor in Paediatric Neurology, with a keen interest in the interactions between the brain and immune system, and how neurological biomarkers can contribute to the understanding of disease processes and development of future therapeutics.
  • A/Prof Deepak Gill: Paediatric Neurologist with over 23 year's experience. He is a consultant at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney and University of Melbourne, and Head of the Epilepsy Research
  • Dr Sachin Gupta: Head of the Department of Neurology at CHW. His main interests are paediatric epilepsy and epilepsy surgery. His presentation will discuss the common ASMs and the place of new ASMs in managing children with epilepsy.
  • A/Prof Shekeeb Mohammad: Associate Professor and Paediatric Neurologist with a special interest in movement disorders.
  • Dr Kristina Prelog: Co-head of the Department of Radiology at CHW. She is an experienced neuroradiologist and has published widely on a range of radiological features of diseases in peadiatric neurology.
  • Dr Esther Tantsis: Paediatric Neurologist with subspecialty interest in cerebral palsy, neurogentics and genetics of epilepsy. She is the medical lead for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance early diagnosis clinic.
  • Dr Christopher Troedson: Visiting Paediatric Neurologist, Royal Darwin Hospital. His interests include foetal neurology, neuroradiology and acute/critical care neurology.
  • Dr Joel Vosu: Infectious Diseases Fellow at CHW, undertaking advanced training in paediatric infecious diseases, microbiology, and general paediatrics. He has a special interest in Staphylococcus aureus infections and high-consequence infectious diseases.
  • Dr Richard Webster: Paediatric Neurologist with expertise in neurogenetic, neurocognitive and neuromuscular disorders. One of his main interests is the development of clinical skills in paediatric neurology.
  • Dr Grace Wong: Senior Staff Specialist Forensic Paediatrician and head of the Child Protection Unit at CHW. She has worked in the field of chid protection and forensic medicine as a specialist paediatrician since 2014.
  • Dr Wui-Kwan Wong: Paediatric Neurology Consultant with subspecialty experience in epilepsy surgery and neurogenetics.
