- **Event Description**: Explore the past on this craft-filled, engaging session designed specifically for children being Home Educated.About this EventJoin us for our monthly session designed specifically for Home Educated children. Each of the sessions explores a different theme from the past, delving into the crafts and looking at the artefacts from prehistory, the romans and the early medieval period. With exclusive use of the Avalon Archaeology site, we’ll examine and utilise our unique reconstructed buildings as the perfect setting for hands-on learning about history and archaeology.March will see us delve deeper into the Roman period with more hands on crafts and object handling.April and May's sessions will transport us into the world of the Anglo Saxons and the crafts that shaped their world.June's session we will take a look at the raiders and traders from Scandinavia, the Vikings.July will link to the Festival of Archaeology with a special session learning the skills of the archaeologist.Need to Know:Suitable for children aged 7-14 years. Please no children outside of this age group.Children must be accompanied by an adult. No more than 4 children per adult.To join the tour, bring your ticket on paper or on your mobile to the Welcome Hut at Avalon Archaeology. Part of the tour will take place outside, so dress appropriately for the weather.After your visit, you can make use of the Avalon Marshes Centre and visit the Somerset Crafts gallery. You can also journey onto Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve and see replica wooden prehistoric trackways.Unfortunately, we do not allow dogs into the site except for assistance dogs. Dogs are welcome in the wider Avalon Marshes Centre and must be kept on a short lead at all times. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the main area of Shapwick Heath, which is the closest nature reserve to the site.AccessibilityThe reconstructed buildings are accessible but feature some uneven gravel surfaces and narrow spaces that may make turning in larger electric wheelchairs difficult. A manual wheelchair is available on site for visitors to loan if there are issues.
