- **Event Description**: America 250 - Preserving Our History Event!
Please join us as we celebrate our nation’s 250th Anniversary. We will mark the occasion with a commemorative ceremony on Saturday, October 24, 2026, 2PM, (Rain Date Oct 31) at the Old Burying Grounds, 43 Mechanic Street, Westfield.
The event is free and open to the public. There will be participation from Pomeroy Chapter Sons of the American Revolution “SAR” Honor Guard and Firing Detail, Mercy Warren Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Westfield Historical Commission, Descendants of Major General William Shepard, Westfield Veterans Services and Westfield Veteran Grave Officer and Preservation Team Volunteers. The ceremony will be steeped in history.
In a way to honor the past and preserve our history, Westfield Veterans Services Grave Officer Gene Theroux and his team will have a demonstration of gravestone preservation. Gene works year-round to keep our veteran grave sites in tip top shape, repairing broken stones, raising sunken stones, cleaning dirty stones and ensuring all our veterans graves are flagged with a United States of America flag.
We would be honored if you would join us on this historic occasion.
