Hello! It's that time of year when we are seeing our beloved, dazzling Fireflies!
However, according to their assessment results in Jan 2022 and quoted from the PDF, "Eighteen species were found to be threatened with extinction (Critically Endangered [CR]. Endangered [EN], or Vulnerable [VU]) in the US and Canada" - Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation

Since we still have some supplies to share from our Host a Butterfly event, we thought, why not use these resources to support our Fireflies too!
The Support Our Fireflies event will be Saturday July 5th between 930a and 1030a at The Seed Vault! Hope you can stop by! (weather permitting and while supplies last)
If you came to our Host a Butterfly event earlier this Spring, please bring your trowel and gloves that were given to you then!
**New trowels and gloves will be reserved for visitors who did not get to come to our previous events**
We will have grasses such as Little Bluestem, Switchgrass and Indiangrass (host plants for Fireflies).
We will have pictures printed out of what grass looks like when it's fully grown. This way, everything can be visualized, and for those who are still learning to communicate, can point to what they like.
We have the seeds, potting soil, tiny biodegradable planting pots, kid's gloves (sizes ranging from toddlers to about 7yo), trowels, a few tiny watering cans made for little ones to use.
One of the best parts of this? Your kiddo will get to take home their plant, trowel and gloves (for those who didn't attend the butterfly event in the Spring) as a "thank you" for participating!
**Please understand that this is "while supplies last and/or if the gloves we have fit". Our glove sizes are a bit limited, but we hope is to accommodate all who attend**
This event is made possible because of the generosity of the businesses who donated towards it! Thank you to:
- Leaves for Wildlife for donating all the seeds to share with us. We appreciate your dedication to habitat restoration and advocacy for native planting. You're amazing
- Roush Hardware in Westerville for donating the potting soil, kid's gloves, and biodegradable pots!
- My Cousins Cottage in Uptown Westerville for donating the tiny watering cans!
- Beechwold ACE Hardware for donating the majority of the trowels. That was very generous of you, and we are thankful for generosity! They don't have a FB, but please check them out at 4591 N High St, Columbus, OH 43214. It's a wonderful store.
- Lowe's Home Improvement for donating more trowels and kid's gloves. The employees I worked with couldn't have been nicer.
We appreciate your support!
Hope to see you there!
