The Diabetes Dash 5K came to be a short time after Ryan Washburn was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in July 2018. After diagnosis, Ryan became very interested in the work of JDRF, now known as Breakthrough T1D and knew he wanted to do his part in spreading awareness, giving hope to those dealing with the disease, and fighting for a cure. Not only is our mission to help fund the research efforts to someday find a cure, but we also want to educate the community about Type 1 Diabetes. Proceeds will be donated to Breakthrough T1D - Southern & Central Ohio Chapter and a scholarship fund of $1,000 will be awarded to a Westerville City School graduating senior living with T1D in 2026. Special Note - There were 2 - $1,000 scholarships awarded this year funded from our 2024 5K.
