The CDC’s data on suicide risk shows that the construction and extraction industries have the highest rate of suicide among occupational groups in the U.S. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is leading the charge to make it save to talk about mental health—every day, on every jobsite. Our Construction Hike for Hope events offer an opportunity for industry workers, their loved ones, their colleagues, and their communities to come together to end the stigma. Together, we’ll enjoy a walk in our natural surroundings while acknowledging the impact that suicide and mental health have affected our lives, empowering one another to become mental health champions in the workforce, and raising critical funding that will further research, education, advocacy, and support for the construction industry.
