A Half-Day Yoga, Hiking & Mandala Retreat

There is something ancient in the act of walking, gathering, creating, and circling together.

Join Sunflower Yoga Studio for a half-day nature retreat designed to help you step away from the noise of daily life and return to the steady wisdom of the earth. This experience blends gentle movement, mindful hiking, nature connection, creative expression, brunch, journaling, and community circle.

We’ll begin our morning at Hidden Valley Park in Sandy, Utah with a simple 20-minute yoga practice to warm the body and awaken the senses. This will be an accessible, outdoor practice designed to prepare us for the trail — no yoga mat needed.

From there, we’ll set out together on a mindful 3-mile hike to the suspension bridge. We’ll be joined on the trail by a local plant biologist, who will help us slow down, look more closely, and learn about the living world around us.

As we walk, we’ll explore some of the plants, patterns, relationships, and adaptations that shape the local landscape. Rather than simply moving through nature, we’ll be invited to become more attentive participants in it — noticing what is growing, changing, sheltering, and quietly sustaining life along the trail.

Along the way, you’ll also be invited to gather small fallen nature treasures to use later in your mandala practice. These might include leaves, stones, twigs, seed pods, petals, or other natural materials already released by the land. We’ll gather gently and respectfully, taking only what has fallen and leaving living plants rooted and undisturbed.

After our hike, we’ll return to the park pavilion and share brunch in community. This will be a time to rest, nourish, connect, and enjoy the simple sweetness of being together outdoors.

Following brunch, we’ll spend time learning about mandalas — sacred circular designs found across many cultures and traditions. Mandalas often symbolize wholeness, impermanence, cycles, harmony, and the interconnectedness of life. They can also serve as a meditative practice, inviting us to slow down, listen inward, and create from a place of presence rather than perfection.

You’ll then be invited to create your own mandala in one of two ways. You may choose to make a temporary earth mandala on the grass or cement using the natural treasures gathered during the hike, allowing your creation to become an offering to the land. Or, you may create a take-home mandala art piece on poster board using provided supplies such as paper, glue, markers, paint, and other creative materials.

We’ll close our retreat with journaling, circle discussion, and reflection — making space to honor what the body, the trail, the earth, and the creative process have revealed.

This retreat is not about being an experienced yogi, hiker, or artist. It is about presence. It is about letting the earth hold you for a morning. It is about remembering that beauty can be gathered slowly, one breath, one step, one small treasure at a time.

Come walk, breathe, gather, create, and remember your place within the great circle of things.
