- **Event Description**: Welcoming all 4-H youth who want to grow their skills in making jams, bread, and cake decorating!About this EventFarmstead Kitchen: From-Scratch CookingOrganized by The 4-H Program of Howard, Montgomery, and Fredrick CountyJune 30 & July 1, 2026This two-day workshop series is designed for 4-H youth, ages 8-18, who are interested in entering goods at the fair. Participants will gain hands-on experience in essential areas including safe food handling practices, fresh bread making, preparing canned jams, and cake decoration. This is also a great opportunity for older youth to grow their leadership skills! All interested youth looking to grow their skills are encouraged to sign up for this educational two-day stretch for a fun and delicious time. Participation fee for both days is $40.For both days: The drop off time window is between 9 AM - 9:30 AM, with programming beginning promptly at 9:30 AM. Pickup time is between 3:30 PM - 4 PM.What you can expect:Day 1: We plan to visit a local berry orchard to obtain fresh fruit for our jam while learning best harvesting practices. Upon return, we will breakout into groups and rotate activities, including: Jam-making Station, Bread Station, and Fair 101.Day 2: Things get sweet with these rotating activites! Youth will be broken into rotating groups to participate in Cake Decorating 101 and a Homemade Ice-cream. We will finish with "Cupcake Wars", where youth will work in teams to have a friendly face-off in decorating cupcakes using an assortment of toppings.*Note: Snack breaks will be provided throughout the day.
