Brass music in a bar, playing music we’ve never seen before, what could go wrong?!
It feels like we should do some Marches for March, maybe we will, maybe won’t... either way let’s get together and make some spontaneous music together!
I’m thinking a mixture of pop, indie, Balkan and a few upbeat classical ones would go down well
Bring a horn, bring a stand, bring some courage when you make a sightreading mistake (don’t worry we all do and nobody here is going to judge).
For the uninitiated:
Do you like playing your Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, Euphonium, French Horn, Tuba, helicon, Sackbutt etc with other people, but don’t have time to commit to weekly Brass Band/ Big Band/Concert Band rehearsals?Wouldn’t it be nice to play once a month in a bar with no responsibilities to come every time? Are you tired of going to jams and not being heard or just playing the hits in a 1970’s cover band?
Out of the ashes of going to too many crusty Blues Jams, Brisbane Brass Jam was created out of one guy’s desire to play some cool tunes with other brass musicians without the responsibility of having to do a weekly rehearsal.
Note: This isn’t a Blues Jam. Most genres will be explored through the sheet music that we have. If you have a suggestion or some sheet music, bring a few copies along and we can have a geezer.
No reeds, no strings…. just brass, maybe the occasional drummer and maybe a sneaky beer (or two).
If there’s lots of us, Bringing a device that can connect to google drive and the internet would be advantageous (some paper copies will be available).
Gaining access to google drive on the day is easy with a tablet that has a camera and one that also connects to the internet
