The SCSC is pleased to announce the second production of its 2025 - 2026 season, William Shakespeare’s masterpiece, The Tempest.
Prospero, a betrayed duke and magician, is bent on justice and revenge. He summons his magical gifts into a devastating sea storm, which hurls the ship’s crew onto the island—among them his usurping brother. With supernatural islanders as unwilling agents of his scheme and the castaways spellbound, Prospero’s plot advances. Old scores must be settled; his daughter, Miranda, must find love. But, as his vision unfolds, a different ending emerges—one of forgiveness, love, compassion, and redemption. This play is considered by many to be the Bard’s final play.
The Tempest will be directed by Linda Khoury

Brief description of principal characters:
The Inhabitants of the island
Prospero: The rightful Duke of Milan who has spent 12 years on the island mastering sorcery after being deposed by his brother. He is a controlling, vengeful figure who ultimately chooses forgiveness.
Miranda: Prospero’s compassionate and naive daughter, brought to the island at age three. She is innocent, having known only her father and Caliban, and falls in love with Ferdinand.
Ariel: A powerful, airy spirit and Prospero’s servant, rescued from imprisonment by the witch Sycorax. Ariel is eager for freedom, executing Prospero's magic tasks with speed and artistry.
Caliban: The son of the witch Sycorax and a "savage and deformed" inhabitant of the island. He is enslaved by Prospero, whom he hates, and provides a complex voice of resentment against colonialism.
The Shipwrecked Court
Alonso: The King of Naples who helped Antonio usurp Prospero. He believes his son, Ferdinand, has drowned and is stricken with grief.
Ferdinand: Alonso's son and the Prince of Naples, who falls in love with Miranda. He is romantic, loyal, and willingly performs hard labor for love.
Antonio: Prospero’s brother who usurped the dukedom of Milan. He is treacherous and manipulative, persuading Sebastian to plot against Alonso.
Sebastian: Alonso's brother, who is easily tempted by Antonio into plotting to murder the King.
Gonzalo: An honest old councillor who provided Prospero and Miranda with books and supplies during their exile. He remains optimistic despite their circumstances.
Adrian & Francisco: Minor lords in Alonso's court who provide commentary on the island.
The Comic Relief
Stephano: A drunken butler who finds a barrel of wine and is mistaken for a god by Caliban. He conspires with Caliban to K*ll Prospero and take over the island.
Trinculo: A jester and friend to Stephano, who joins in the plot to K*ll Prospero
The Masque Spirits
Iris: A spirit representing the rainbow goddess and messenger, acting as a spirit in Prospero’s masque.
