More information can be found here.This course is suitable for staff providing direct care or making decisions across all adult care settingsUnder the Health and Care Act 2022 all CQC-regulated providers must ensure their staff receive training in learning disability and autism that is appropriate to their role.This is supported by the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice, which sets out how to meet this legal duty.This applies to all servicesEven if your service does not currently support autistic people or people with a learning disability, this requirement still applies.People with learning disabilities and autistic people may use a wide range of services, including general, older people’s, and non-specialist settings. In some cases, individuals may not have a formal diagnosis or may not have disclosed it. Therefore, all staff must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide safe, respectful, and inclusive care.The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the government’s preferred training of meaningful training for health and social care staff on learning disabilities and autism.The Tier 2 course is co-delivered by trainers with lived experience and covers:Avoiding diagnostic overshadowingCommon co-occurring conditionsLegal frameworks (Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act, Autism Act, Equality Act)Reasonable adjustments, including hospital passportsAppropriate DNACPR applicationProfessional culture, biases, and their impactAccessible communicationUnderstanding and responding to individuals and familiesAsk Listen Do frameworkLearning from LeDeRPrior to attending, delegates must have completed the e-learning module which can be found herePlease note this is managed on the national platform “e-learning for healthcare” and is not managed by CPA.
