Elgar’s From the Bavarian Highlands sets words written by his wife Alice, inspired by walking holidays in the Alps. It reveals the composer’s lighter side, glowing with infectious warmth and the pleasures of the everyday. Jonathan Dove dedicated The Passing of the Year to the memory of his mother, setting seven texts that trace the shape of a human life through the turning of the seasons.

We are always looking for good singers of all ages and backgrounds, especially altos, tenors, and basses. Subject to passing a singer-friendly audition you could be singing with us in St Albans Abbey in October 2026.

Hertfordshire Chorus is one of the country’s foremost symphonic choirs. Conducted by David Temple MBE, it appears frequently with the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic
Concert Orchestra and is often broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 2. Our critically acclaimed recordings include The Armed Man (Karl Jenkins), Nova! Nova! (Louis Halsey), Ode to
a Nightingale (Will Todd), and Codebreaker (James McCarthy) and the world premiere recording of Parry’s De profundis and God is our hope and strength for Signum Records.
