Vinyasa Krama is a lineage of yoga from Sri T Krishnamacharya (known as the Father of modern yoga), as taught (for over 30 years) to Srivatsa Ramaswami.Morning 10am-1pm:On this International Yoga Day and Summer Solstice, we will take the opportunity to learn about and practice some of the 'Vishesha' (special) sequences including Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutations) and Ding Namaskara (salutations to the directions). This will be part of balanced yoga practices, with other elements to prepare, plus breathing and meditation. Both sequences will be practiced with chanting (by me leading, participants practicing).Afternoon 2-5pm:There will be a yoga philosophy talk on the 'Eight Limbs of Yoga', from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, giving a wider perspective on the true meaning and purpose of yoga and how this can relate to our lives and yoga practice.Then further practices including ‘mudras‘, important still positions held for longer, ‘Bandhas‘ (specific muscle contractions), both having a significant effect on body/ mind. Practices will culminate with meditation, aiming for peace arising naturally from your efforts.Vinyasa Krama's integrated approach gently energizes the body, focuses the mind, calms the nervous system, promotes physical and emotional health but most crucially it has the aim of mental peace. It is true to yoga’s ancient roots. Do join me to go deeper in your yoga journey or start a new one.Suitable beginners/experienced (elements to satisfy everyone). A short intro to VKY will be given to any beginners.
