A brief Annual Meeting precedes this program. Drinks and light beverages will be served. This event is free.
This presentation will give a detailed look into the research completed by Kennebunk Town Historian, Kathy Ostrander Roberts on the topic of slavery in the towns of Wells, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel.
Roberts spearheaded an effort to fund a series of archaeological digs on a site she located where those who were previously enslaved came to live following emancipation in 1783.
This presentation will outline the steps it took to find the site using primary and secondary sources. It will provide a wide range of images of those sources. It will elaborate on the names of the individuals who were enslaved and by whom they were enslaved.
