The midwinter muddled up half ironman classic is back! We have moved from the shortest day to August 10 so rather than hanging onto the fumes of fitness from last season you can now grasp onto the creaks of motivation for season 2019/20 to get you out the door.
The format for you newbies is meet at Freyberg pool to hand over your running shoes to our travelling assistants. Stage 1 is a 46km bunch ride up to the Rimutaka incline carpark, Stage 2 is a 20km run up to the top at the Summit railway station, then back to your bikes where in Stage 3 it is up to you whether you decide to stay in your bunch or go for glory and ride as fast as you can back to Freyberg for Stage 4 which is a 60 length swim in which ever lane is appropriate for you (fast, medium or cramping up to the max). Then last year we all brought a shared snack and spent an hour eating it in the sunshine while comparing calf injuries (here is hoping for something similair, weather and chocolate - not the injuries!).
Traditionally we have 2 bunches - the roadrunners who leave Freyberg at 8am, captained by Gerrard Smith and the Coyotes who try to catch up captained by Matt Berg who like all coyote pack leaders knows it is smartest to lead from the back! There is scope for another earlier bunch too if there is interest just let us know.
This event is for Tri Wellington members only and is intended as our midwinter social gathering. You join in at your own risk guys and we will send updates via this event page so sign up even if you are only 'interested'.
People are welcome to do just part of the course depending on their own level of fitness and availability but to become an immortal you have to do the entire thing!
If the weather is foul on Saturday and looks better on Sunday we will change days.
Thanks and see you on the course.
