- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 15 Nov, 2026 at 02:00 pm – Sun, 15 Nov, 2026 at 03:30 pm (+13:00)
- **Event Description**: John Walsh and Patrick Reynolds

Architecture writer John Walsh and photographer Patrick Reynolds discuss their city walking guides and the heritage places they reveal, bringing together Walsh’s deep knowledge of Aotearoa New Zealand architecture and Reynolds’ distinctive photographic eye.

About the speakers:

John Walsh is a leading New Zealand architecture writer. He edited Architecture New Zealand magazine for a decade, and has written numerous books on New Zealand architecture, among them the newly revised Auckland Architecture: A Walking Guide, which features photographs by Patrick Reynolds.

Patrick Reynolds is probably best known for his exceptional architectural and interior photographs that appear in publications such as Urbis and Vogue Living. However, over the past 20 years he has developed a highly successful parallel career as a leading photographer within New Zealand contemporary visual arts. As an exhibiting artist his work is about New Zealand landscape, nature, architecture, patterns of seeing, and – just as importantly – about the art and place of photography.

Professor Andrew Barrie

New Zealand-born architectural critic and designer, Prof. Andrew Barrie discusses the research and publication of Block maps, drawing on his work as an architectural critic, designer, author, and educator with deep connections to architecture in Japan and Aotearoa New Zealand.

About the speaker:

Professor Andrew Barrie is a New Zealand-born architectural critic and designer formerly based in Tokyo. After completing doctoral studies in Japan, Andrew was a project architect in the office of Toyo Ito, one of the world’s most innovative and influential architects, and later at Cheshire Architects in Auckland. Andrew own design work is widely celebrated, having won numerous awards in both Japan and NZ—including a prestigious named award from the New Zealand Institute of Architects—and has been exhibited nationally and internationally. He is a regular contributor to architecture and design journals and has authored three books on the work of Japanese architects. He has made significant contributions to architectural culture in New Zealand, recognized by the award (with the Block Foundation) of the NZIA’s Auckland Cup for services to architecture, and his election to the Royal Society of New Zealand.
