Parking on campus will be free in unmarked, unlined car parks.Vanessa Wairata Edwards-Buerger (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Whakatohea, Ngāti Kuri & Ngāti Kahu) is an artist and curator based in Whanganui, where she works as Educator at Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery. Her print practice explores Māori cultural sovereignty, whakapapa, and storytelling through traditional and experimental techniques like drypoint, relief printing, and mixed-media sgraffito. She is a founding member of Toi Whakaata Māori, a collective of Māori printmakers dedicated to advancing Māori printmaking through creative practice, collaboration, and cultural exchange.Professor Indra Kupferschmid is Professor of Typography and Type Design at HBKsaar (University of the Arts Saarbrücken, Germany) and a member of the DIN committees on type legibility and classification. An internationally respected typographic scholar, her research has focused on the history of twentieth-century German sans-serif typefaces, including Akzidenz-Grotesk and Neue Haas-Grotesk/Helvetica, as well as the ways in which type production technologies have evolved over time. Author of the award-winning typographic reference Buchstaben kommen selten allein and co-author of Helvetica Forever, she has spent nearly three decades teaching typography across Europe. Through Klim, Sowersby has developed bespoke typographic solutions for a global clientele, including The Financial Times, PayPal, and National Geographic and Apple. Within Aotearoa, his practice includes the creation of custom type for The Bank of New Zealand, Trade Me, and Tourism New Zealand. He is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale and was named an Art Laureate by The Arts Foundation for his continuing contribution to New Zealand Art and Design. He is a distinguished indigenous artist, designer, and academic whose work integrates Mātauranga Māori with contemporary creative technologies, aiming to decolonize and indigenize design and digital media. Together with Kris Sowersby, Professor Witehira developed Matarongo, a contemporary digital typeface family built from rigorous research into Māori letterforms. Witehira traced Māori letterforms through traditional crafts, from tuhi waitohu (hand lettering) to tātai kupu toi (typography), and Sowersby translated that research into type.
