Join us on our annual Daffodil Express — a special heritage train journey to Carterton’s much‑loved Daffodil Festival in the heart of the Wairarapa.

Travel in vintage style behind our beautifully restored locomotives and carriages, with convenient boarding available at Wellington, Petone, Waterloo and Upper Hutt.

Sit back and enjoy the journey as we leave the city behind, race through the Hutt Valley suburbs, head through to the Wairarapa — including the famous 8.8km tunnel, one of the longest on New Zealand’s passenger network.

Once in Carterton, you’ll have time to explore everything the festival has to offer, including stunning daffodil fields at Middle Run Farm, bustling street markets and artisan stalls, live music and entertainment, food, crafts, and family-friendly fun.

After a relaxing few hours, simply hop back onboard for the return journey — no traffic, no parking hassles — just a great day out by rail.
