- **Event Description**: Please join us for a screening of Pesta Babi aka Pig Feast: Colonialism in Our Time, a fascinating new investigative documentary examining contemporary colonialism, militarisation, and large‑scale development projects in West Papua.

The film follows Indigenous communities in Merauke whose forests and ancestral lands are being transformed into vast industrial plantations under state-backed “food security” and energy projects, forcing people from their homes, away from traditional food sources, and into poverty and starvation.

Recent weeks have seen renewed violence and repression in Papua, including the disappearance and coercion of Mama Yasinta, a prominent West Papuan activist and one of the film’s key protagonists, as well as escalating state violence. Many of the screenings in Indonesia have been stopped by the military, which has been unleashed since Prabowo Subianto assumed the presidency in 2024.

We will be showing Pesta Babi / Pig Feast at the Newtown Community Centre Whare Tapere at 6:30 pm on Saturday, September 5th. Tickets are $20 or $5 for the unwaged. To book your tickets, contact antifascistPoneke@gmail.com
