- **Event Description**: We're very excited to be hosting Tusiata Avia, Gareth Watkins and Flora Feltham for a panel discussion on the theme of 'Our Ancestors' on Saturday 11 April, 11am - 12pm. This panel is part of our Explore Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui series of events happening over the weekend of 11 and 12 of April to celebrate the recent reopening of Te Matapihi.

This event will be held in the beautiful Ngā Pou Ruahine space on the second floor. This is a free event and all are welcome. We expect this event to be popular and seating is limited, so please arrive early to ensure a seat.

Meet our esteemed panellists...

Tusiata Avia:

Tusiata Avia MNZM is a celebrated New Zealand poet and children's author. Among her many awards, her 2021 collection 'The Savage Coloniser' won the Mary and Peter Biggs Award for Poetry at the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. She was honoured in the 2020 Queen’s Birthday list.

Gareth Watkins:

Gareth Watkins is a hugely respected LGBTQIA+ historian and a prominent voice and recorder of LGBTQIA+ history, especially that of the Wellington area.

Flora Feltham:

Flora Feltham is a writer and weaver from Pōneke who has published works in Turbine | Kapohau, ArtNow, The Spinoff, and The Guardian. Her essay collection 'Bad Archive' was shortlisted for the 2025 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards in the General Non‑fiction category.
