Alex Hillary is the GM of the Himalayan Trust and patron of Hillary Outdoors. He is a passionate outdoors person with many trips to the Himalayas. He is also passionate about New Zealand and has done many adventures in our remote backcountry and has also worked as a guide in the Sub Antarctic Islands of New Zealand and Antarctica.

In his talk to the July meeting of the Wellington Mature Mountaineers, Alex will talk about the Hillary story of mountaineering in the Himalayas, including his own mountaineering adventures there, and how, for three generations of Hillarys, this climbing passion has evolved into a moving and enduring work with the mountain peoples of Nepal. Hillary will also talk about the impact adventures in New Zealand have had on preparing him for expeditions abroad and his passion for the New Zealand landscape.

Mature Mountaineer meetings are an NZ Alpine Club initiative providing an opportunity for older members of the NZAC to get together, share and hear stories from an invited speaker, and have afternoon tea. These social gatherings are for those less likely to go out to evening events and the functions are open to all interested outdoor enthusiasts and are made possible thanks to support from NZAC Tūpiki Trust.
