This film marked the beginning of Marlene Dietrich's international stardom. Emil Jannings plays a high school teacher who punishes his students for their infatuation with the local cabaret headliner, Lola (Dietrich). Unfortunately, the professor finds himself just as susceptible to the siren song of Lola as his students are, and he has a lot more to lose than they do...

This tale of lust and jealousy was so successful that Dietrich was hired for Hollywood productions before 'The Blue Angel' even made it to American shores. Few can forget her musical numbers in this film, most famously her crooning performance of 'Falling in Love Again'.
