- **Event Description**: We would like to invite you to our film debate at Victoria University. On this occasion, we will be screening the movie My Tender Matador (Tengo miedo torero), directed by Rodrigo Sepúlveda and based on the novel by Pedro Lemebel, a queer Chilean poet and artist.

Synopsis:
In 1986 Chile, during the height of Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship, a platonic love story unfolds between "La Loca del Frente" (Castro)—an aging travesti who embarks on a living embroidering tablecloths for military wives in a poor Santiago neighborhood—and young Carlos (Ortizgris), a Mexican guerrilla fighter from the Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front. They meet after "La Loca" escapes a nightclub raided by the Chilean police (Carabineros) during a live show, an event that results in the murder of several local transvestites. As the police chase down those fleeing the venue, Carlos, who is loitering nearby, finds and hides her—an act that ultimately leads her to fall in love with the stranger. As days go by, their relationship evolves from a chance encounter into a close friendship, though "La Loca" flirts with him every chance she gets. Eager to keep seeing her "prince," she begins doing favors for him that will eventually entangle her in the Patriotic Front's plot to assassinate Pinochet.

The film will feature English subtitles. After the screening, we invite you to stay and chat with us; please note the discussion will be held in Spanish.
