Expect the unexpected from Wellington-based Agatha Pantha - a folk/rock four-piece whose sounds range from bouncing rhythms to dark, tangled ballads to anthemic rock numbers that provide a sound track to everyday life.
Fronted by singer, lyricist and ukelele player Mo Blishen, Agatha Pantha is the product of four unlikely allies joined by musical fortitude. With music written by guitarist Kent Hogan, and supported by Nik Straughier on bass and Sam King on drums, their infectious songs have been heard at some of some notable hotspots in Wellington.
You will find yourself singing along and humming the tunes for days after.
BDSN is the musical equivalent of a box of chocolates – with this Wellington 4 piece made up of notable Wellington Musicians
B = Ben McHardy, drummer extrordinaire,
D = Darrel Greaney bringing the ace bass and smooth harmonies,
S = Scott Pilgrim with his sumptuous guitar sounds,
N = Nigel Parry, award winning songwriter with a big repertoire and voice to match,
you never know what you are going to get and you can’t always tell by the wrapper. Rocking out the social comment songs with a political edge.
Starting the evening off are Beans Wright and Don Mackay, two thirds of folk trio Don and the Divorcees, which has recently released their debut album "Bit Players”.
Currently happily married but not to each other, they play beautifully crafted songs with intertwining harmonies.
