Come on out to Buntsy’s on November 14 and see what all the fuss was about as they play some of their 3 “albums” worth of material. Playing along with them will be The Grinders and The Dave Mabelis Band.
Music starts at 8:30
“Avalon” (not the cover band) was an all-original heavy metal band formed in Rochester, NY in 1987 by Willie Lopez, Chuck Roselli, Bob Trail, and Lex Dunbar.
Initially, all the members got together in the winter of 1986 to create an individual demo for themselves. But after 3 weeks of writing in Hornell and recording their first album in about 3 days with Tony Gross at GFI Studios, the fellas decided to stay together. The rest is an oh-so-tiny slice of Rochester music history.
They were one of the only heavy metal bands in the area at the time to write and perform 100% original music, and they played it with confidence and gusto all around NY State….mostly in Rochester, and exclusively at Backstreets.
That space is long gone, but a novel of stories were made in those years, (some of you know all about that). Ensuing chapters would be written when they moved to NYC in 1991.
After coming very close to “getting signed” a number of times in NYC, which was a common goal at the time, the band disbanded around 1994. The members all went their separate ways after that.
They have played a number of reunion shows in Rochester, and they’re back for another one… this time at Buntsy’s.
They recently recorded new material which is in the process of being completed. They also signed a deal with a European record company and re-mastered and re-released their second effort along with some live CBGB “board mix” tracks and unreleased NYC recordings.
