The Mystery of Chess Boxing (dubbed)

The original Ghostface Killer is on the loose! A vicious villain with an unstoppable five element technique, Ghostface is killing off all his old rivals. Meanwhile, a young student tries to learn kung fu and is taken under the wing of an old chess master. The basics of chess prove to be the same as the basics of fighting, and eventually the heroes will have to fight Ghostface Killer, who verbally insults his opponents as he annihilates them. Kung fu classic The Mystery of Chess Boxing saw its profile in America raise when the Wu-Tang Clan established themselves as big proponents of the film—the name of Wu-Tang member Ghostface Killah being the most obvious example here. We’ll be presenting a brand new DCP of the classic film, sourced from the only known 35mm print, in its original Mandarin with English subtitles or, as is RZA’s preference, in its dubbed version. (“He’s the Ghost Face Killer!”)

The Mystery of Chess Boxing will play in Mandarin with English subtitles on Friday, July 4 and Sunday, July 6. It will play dubbed in English on Saturday, July 5 only.
