Seeds are magic! Growing your own vegetable & flower seedlings is fun and economical AND gives you a jump-start on the gardening season!
Grow your own transplants! Our workshop will demonstrate successful seed starting methods – including tips on appropriate soil, temperature, lighting, watering, timing, and more. These techniques work for both vegetables and flowers and will help new and experienced gardeners.
Free, but must pre-register.

About Dave Penland: Dave Penland is the current Green Goods Manager and co-owner at Reems Creek Nursery. He is the son of Bill & Wilma Penland, founders of Reems Creek Nursery, Inc. Dave is a graduate of NC State and Appalachian State Universities and has 20+ years of experience working locally as a licensed landscape contractor. After his landscaping career, Dave taught 7 years of high school agriculture in Buncombe County before returning to Reems Creek Nursery.
About Ruth Gonzalez: Ruth has planted many seeds and actively gardened since her college years – ranging from organic market farming to tiny-space gardens to gardening for pollinators. Organic gardening, pollinator habitat, and the wonderment of nature are her passions. An artist, occasional garden designer, and a NC Certified Plant Professional, Ruth has worked at Reems Creek Nursery since 2003 and is inspired by an ever-widening array of plant palettes and landscape design approaches.
