The age range for camp this year is 10-14 years old because we will be cutting, chopping, and cooking for the first two days of camp. This is different than our previous camp experiences which have featured other types of agriculture activities with some limited cooking included.Thanks to the generous support of Haywood County Farm Bureau, we are able to offer this camp along with the transporation for farm tours and a camp t-shirt for $35 per camper. CAMP AGENDADay 1 - Tuesday, August 4Camp will run from 9:00 am to 2:00 pmAll campers need to bring a bag lunch each day (we are a nut free youth program)We will learn about cooking basics and home food safetyWe will learn about measuring and how yeast helps bread rise by making our own pizza doughWe will be learning about cutting and chopping veggies for our pizzasWe will make pizza in our office's Ooni pizza oven and enjoy it as a snackWe will also use our new cutting and chopping skills to prepare pickles and onions for our canning project the next dayDay 2 - Wednesday, August 5Camp will run from 9:00 am to 2:00 pmAll campers need to bring a bag lunch each day (we are a nut free youth program)We will learn about cooking different meats and safe cooking temperaturesWe will practice our cutting and chopping skills with veggies, fruits, and herbs to make taco toppings and a variety of salsasWe will make tacos with a variety of ingredients to see how easy it is to make taco truck style tacos at homeWe will learn about hot water bath canning to preserve bread and butter picklesDay 3 - Thursday, August 6Camp will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm The end of camp awards ceremony will be at 4:30 pmAll campers need to bring a bag lunch each day (we are a nut free youth program)We will spend the day off-site touring local farms to learn about where many of the ingredients we used over the past two days came from in Haywood CountyAt 4:30 pm, we will have our end of camp awards ceremony with all parents invited!In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, N.C.
