This is a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony during which we will describe the mission of LEARN, thank the leadership of Westminster for providing space, and inform the community about the ways in which they can support our work –including referring adult student learners, serving as a trained tutor, and giving financial support.

Background Information on LEARN, Inc.

Founded in 1981, LEARN English and Reading Now, Inc. provides free, one-on-one English language tutoring to our neighbors—helping them gain the skills they need to work, communicate, and thrive in our community. With a team of 35 trained
volunteers, we offer personalized English tutoring to 40 students. For every one learner we tutor, we reach five more learners indirectly through their families, impacting up to
200 community members a year.

With their improved English language skills and growing confidence, our adult learners have gone on to:

• Advance their education from GEDs to college degrees
• Obtain their driver’s licenses and gain more independence
• Receive job promotions, allowing them to provide for their families
• Earn their United States citizenship

There are many ways that individuals, faith-based organizations, and other non-profits can support our work:

• Publicize the work of LEARN to people in your organization who might benefit from language tutoring.
• Publicize the work of LEARN to those who might be interested in tutoring – we offer thorough training, so anyone who can read/write/speak can help.
• Offer a safe space at your site for one-on-one instruction.
