We’re excited to bring that same experience creating fun, welcoming, kid-friendly programs to The Mahjong Studio. Camp is designed as a 3-day introduction to help kids learn the foundations, build confidence, and fall in love with the game. Campers who want to continue playing will be invited to join future youth Mahjong sessions at The Mahjong Studio. Campers will learn the basics of Mahjong through age-appropriate lessons, hands-on activities, guided play, and plenty of encouragement in a warm and welcoming environment. Kids will begin learning on a kid-friendly Mahjong set designed to make the tiles and game flow easier to understand. Over the course of camp, they’ll gradually transition to a traditional Mahjong set, helping them build confidence step by step. This camp focuses on learning, patience, pattern recognition, decision-making, creativity, confidence, and social connection — all while having fun around the Mahjong table. Campers will spend the majority of camp learning, advancing their skills, and playing with a Kids Starter Mahjong set. They will learn: • Tile recognition • How the game works • Simple beginner rules • Pattern matching and observation skills • Taking turns and table manners • Teamwork, patience, and confidence • How to enjoy Mahjong in a relaxed and social way On the final day, campers will have a brief introduction to the NMJL card and will play at least one game using traditional Mahjong tiles. Camp also includes ice cream and Mahjong-themed activities, because learning should be fun, memorable, and just a little sweet! Each camper will receive a special camp retail credit to use toward their own Mahjong set or Mahjong Studio retail purchase, plus special discounts on Mahjong Studio retail during camp. No prior experience is needed, and all Mahjong sets and materials will be provided.
