- **Event Description**: Crossroads of Sound presents Beth Bahia Cohen in a vibrant journey across Mediterranean, Balkan & Middle Eastern musical traditions.About this EventJoin us for the next chapter of Crossroads of Sound, a project dedicated to bringing together musicians and traditions from across the modal music worlds of the Middle East, the Balkans, Anatolia, and beyond. This special evening features internationally acclaimed violinist and multi-instrumentalist Beth Bahia Cohen, whose musical journey spans an extraordinary range of cultures and traditions. Drawing from her Syrian Jewish and Russian Jewish heritage, and shaped by decades of study with master musicians from Greece, Turkey, Hungary, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, Beth brings a deeply authentic and expressive voice to every tradition she touches. In this performance, audiences will travel across the Mediterranean and its neighboring regions through a rich and diverse repertoire—featuring music from Greek, Turkish, Armenian, Kurdish, Sephardic, Romanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, and Middle Eastern traditions. From intricate dance rhythms to deeply expressive modal improvisations, the program reflects a living musical map shaped by centuries of cultural exchange.Beth is a master of numerous bowed instruments—including violin, viola, Greek lyras, Turkish yaylı tanbur, kabak kemane, Norwegian hardingfele, and Egyptian rababa—each offering a distinct color and voice. Her performances seamlessly move between these traditions, revealing both their unique identities and their deep connections. She will be joined by the Crossroads of Sound ensemble and guest musicians, including Sam Sjostedt (duduk) and Stefanos Athinaios (percussion). The ensemble features Volkan Efe (oud, kanun, ney), Theresa Thompson (violin), Fatih Acun (bağlama), Michael K. Harrist (yaylı tanbur, bass), and Joolz Ma (piano). This concert is an invitation to experience the Mediterranean not as a boundary, but as a meeting point—a true crossroads of sound.
