LONELY PLANET CAST ANNOUNCED
SENECA FALLS, NY, January 5, 2026 ------------ Seneca Community Players announced today that they have cast Steven Dietz’s drama Lonely Planet This moving play is set to be presented at the Lafayette Theater in the former Waterloo Main Street School, 202 West Main Street Waterloo NY, March 6-8 and 12-14, 2026.
Lonely Planet, thought to be one of Steven Dietz’s best plays, has been chosen to start off Seneca Community Players 54th season. In this touching drama, directed by Eric Jansen & produced by Michael Jansen, two best friends Jody and Carl who live in an American city in the midst of the 1980’s AIDS epidemic struggle with what’s happening in their world and their place in it.. The play heavily references the Eugène Ionesco comedy The Chairs. Lonely Planet tells a bittersweet story of Carl’s attempt to persuade Jody to leave the comfort of his map shop to get tested. All throughout the production, Carl tries to show that there is a world bigger than the pieces of paper that have surrounded Jody his entire life. He primarily does so by telling outlandish stories of his day job and by bringing in chairs. Carl places the chairs in Jody’s store in hopes that Jody will realize that there are things going on in their community, and as a member Jody must bear witness and help the problem, rather than shun the world. It is also revealed that Carl helps empty the residences of those taken by the epidemic, and can't stand to see the chairs abandoned and alone. The chairs are later revealed to have a more significant meaning than could ever have expected. It’s the little things in life that we will remembered by. This is what Lonely Planet shares.

The cast of two men carry this show from moving monologues to Don Quixote sword fights and the whole range in between. Chris Boulter of Seneca Falls, plays Jody, a reluctant map store owner and Hunter DeJonge plays Carl, his gregarious and intrusive best friend Tickets are available online now at www.senecacommunityplayers.org .
