Waterford Philosophical Society Bloomsday Lecture
Reading Ulysses: A Guide for the Perplexed
This lecture will outline some of the ways in which Joyce’s epic novel can be approached by first–time readers. While the general biographical and literary contexts of Ulysses will be discussed, close readings of key passages from the text will also be provided. Live performances of songs that are mentioned within the novel will feature during intervals in the night’s proceedings. This talk will conclude with an extended question and answer session in which participants will be encouraged to speak about aspects of Ulysses that are of most interest to them.
No prior knowledge of Ulysses is required. For further information, please email YW1sZW9wYXJkaTggfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbSAhIExpdGVyYXR1cmU=
