8 weeks to a Yoga You
Join yoga teacher Tammy Chouinard in this 8 week series that will get you comfortable with all the yoga basics while gradually building and developing the strength and balance needed across the body to confidently move through a practice. Each week she will teach on different aspects of the practice while helping students move into poses in ways that best suit their needs and bodies. This class size is limited to 5 to provide as much individual guidance as students need.
WEEK ONE: ~The Breath~ During this first session students will learn various breathing techniques used in yoga while practicing various seated and reclining poses.
WEEK TWO: ~The Mind~ This second session will guide you through the process of developing a meditative process and practice that will ultimately help you overcome stress, anxiety and be and feel more mindful not only on your mat, but in all areas of LIFE.
WEEK THREE: ~Gentle Hatha~ This first ASANA (physical practice of Yoga) where students will use breath, meditation and their bodies to become and feel more present in their minds and bodies. This first practice will have an emphasis on the belly and building strength in that deep center area of the body. Most of the poses will be seated with only a few standing poses.
WEEK FOUR: ~Gentle Hatha~ This second asana practice will be similar to week three and will continue to work through poses and breath work that will help to build that deep core strength.
WEEK FIVE: ~Gentle Hatha~ This third asana practice will be similar to the previous but with added poses to stretch and open the hips.
WEEK SIX: ~ Gentle Hatha~ This asana practice will have a focus on continuing to build core strength will opening up and releasing tension in the back.
WEEK SEVEN: ~Yin~ This class will guide students through various yin poses that work to stretch deep into the connective tissue and relieve lots of pent up tension and stress. Students will learn how to use props to help deepen the postures and support their bodies.
WEEK EIGHT: ~Slow Flow~ This last practice will guide students through a practice of "flowing" through poses while deeply linking breath with movement. This will be the most vigorous of all the practices, but a place where you will begin to REALLY feel the strength that yoga brings to one's body. While vigorous, lots of modifications will be given to help students move in ways that best suit their bodies and needs.
At the end of this eight weeks, students will have a deep understanding not only of the yoga practice, but of their bodies and what they need. This age-old practice has a way of helping students become more in tune with their bodies and minds which ultimately leads to people making better more mindful decisions regarding health and wellness.
